چکیده

To determine the mechanism by which platelet counts increase after corticosteroid therapy for human immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP), we studied the platelet kinetics using prednisolone (PDN)-treated ITP-prone mice, (NZW x BXSB) F, (W/B F,). An increase in platelet counts was observed in W/B F, mice (n = 10, mean f SD, 1,202 f 202 x 103/pL) 4 weeks after treatment with PDN (2 mg/ kg/d); no increase occurred in nontreated W/B F, mice (n = 5,651 f 126, P < .005). Prolonged platelet life-spans (PLSs) were observed in treated W/B F, mice (1.29 f 0.40 days), but not in nontreated controls (0.60 f 0.24 days, P < .Ol). No increase in platelet production (platelet turnover) was found in PDN-treated W/B F, mice, but significant decreases in platelet-associated antibodies (PAAs) and platelet-bindable serum antibodies (PBAs) were noted. A Study of Epidemiology and Therapeutic Response of Patients with Immune Thrombocytopenic Purpura

Background: Immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) is a disease characterized by decrease of the peripheral blood platelet count. The disease presents in acute and chronic forms. Because of the importance and high prevalence of ITP, it was decided to study the therapeutic response of patients with ITP. Material and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted at Ghaem hospital, Mashhad, Ira...

Uses of intravenous immunoglobulin

Adjuvant high dose IVIgs are being used increasingly in a range of immune-mediated and auto-immune diseases. Although numerous immunomodulatory mechanisms have been suggested, the exact mechanisms of action are poorly understood. The efficacy of IVIg in certain diseases has been proven in clinical trials, in so far as IVIg is approved as the therapy of choice for Kawasaki syndrome and idiopathi...

A case of newly diagnosed metastatic pancreatic cancer presenting with associated immune thrombocytopenic purpura.

Metastatic pancreatic adenocarcinoma presenting with immune thrombocytopenic purpura is a very rare association. To date, only 1 case report found in the literature delineates such an association. We present a case of a patient with newly diagnosed, biopsy-proven metastatic pancreatic adenocarcinoma with new-onset immune thrombocytopenic purpura. The patient's platelet count returned to normal ...
